Animals - Duck Billed Platypus

What is brown, has a duck bill and swims in lakes? You got it; it is a duck billed platypus. Look how funny it looks:

If you believe me, this is the only mammal in the world that does lay eggs! Wow! The scientific name given to this mysterious animal is very hard to spell and say. It is named Ornithorynchus anatinus. This animal lives in the lakes of eastern Australia. It has a huge bill just like ducks and that is where it got its name from. It has a creamy brown skin, and a furry white tummy underneath. It has a weird kind of legs, which help it swim faster than any mammal under the water. Cool, eh? I would love to be the fastest animal underwater.

Even though this animal looks weird, I think we should all respect a duck billed platypus and its characteristics. Would you like it if people were throwing stones at you and calling you funny names?

Moral: If you want to say something bad, or to hurt someone’s feelings think twice, would you earn something from that?

Writing Fiction - Synthia Robinson and the Dragon of Doom - Chapter 1

Synthia Robinson and the Dragon of Doom

Chapter 1: Life Before Today

Synthia Robinson was a beautiful and intelligent fourteen year old. She had long brown hair and blue eyes. She was quite tall, about 1.55 meters and was as bright as a young daisy. She lived with her parents in a cottage near the woods and had lived there for ten years.

However her life wasn’t always like this. She used to live in a mansion with her parents and elder sister, Samantha. Samantha was a smart and gorgeous ten year old. She was killed by a fire that burnt the mansion. Being only four, Synthia was extremely heartbroken and inconsolable when she found out her sister had died. Although Synthia was sleeping at the time, she somehow had a peep of the incident and saw a pair of black, and bloody wings. The terrible thing was that Samantha died on her mother’s birthday. So, after celebrating her mother’s birthday, they would go to church and have a memorial. Every year Synthia would ask her mother, “Mother why are we celebrating your birthday if such a terrible thing happened on the night of your 33rd birthday?” and her mother would answer, “My dear Synthia, you know I’m not happy about your sister’s death but you have to let things go and believe me your sister’s death was the worst thing I had to let go,”. What’s more is that Synthia always asked herself, “Why did mom let it go?” however she never got her answer.

To be continued...

Animals - Frill Necked Lizard

In the deserts and jungles of Australia lives a very peculiar creature named Frill Necked Lizard. The name given to this miniature animal is Chlamydosaurus kingii.
Can you believe that this tiny little creature looks like it lived with those mountainous dinosaurs? For me the Frill Necked Lizard looks like it has been living for millions of years! Look:

Did you know that the frill of the Dilophosaurus dinosaur in Jurassic Park was inspired by this little creature?

The Frill Necked Lizard, has two big black eyes, showing mostly its fearlessness. Its frills are usually decorated with brownish spots on top, and in the middle it is separated and continued with a cream coloured end and spots above it. Its body has the colour of dried light brown. Its frills are 15cm away from his head. Its tail has no colour difference from the body, however a Frill Necked Lizard has a tail of approximately 20cm! The lizard has small legs that can climb the highest trees in the jungle even though they look tiny. Nevertheless, these miniature legs help the lizards to run faster.

Although not every animal has a loud roar, or big teeth to eat, they all have something that makes them rare. This is why we should not kill or trap animals, so that we can continue looking at nature and its epic peculiar animals and plants.

Juniors are blogging!

Welcome to our Blogging Club! Our Junior school students attend a variety of after school clubs where they are given the opportunity to play, perform, express themselves and of course learn! The students attend the clubs with enthusiasm and dedication.

Why a blogging club?

Because children have amazing thoughts! We teachers tend to their curriculum needs and we focus on their academic progress most of their time at school. Our students though are not only their academic skills. They are the sum of their life experiences, their interesting ideas, their challenging thoughts, their skillful hobbies and fun play time! All us teachers long for those fruitful discussions where students unfold their personalities and enrich our day!

This is exactly what our blogging club is all about. A portal for our children to express themselves and share their thoughts with their classmates and the world. Every week, the students get together and discuss about the internet and the art of blogging. Each of them chooses a subject of interest and they write their thoughts and interests. Let's follow their journey!

This blog is a safe introduction to the internet. The children prepare their post offline and I post it on the blog, using only their first name as a signature. It is a public blog, however the comments are moderated to ensure constructive feedback for the children. We hope you enjoy our blog!
